AP large pack is a 65 liter external frame dual compartment pack based on the ALICE (All Purpose Light Weight Individual Carrying Equipment) design of the US military. The pack is designed with minimal overhead clearance to avoid snagging on foliage. The external frame allows for improved load stability as well as ventilation. The internal pack is divided into an upper section for equipment and lower section for sleeping bags and other similarly bulky items. External pouches on the front, sides and lid allow for distribution and storage of equipment which requires easy access during the patrol. The main pack closes first by a pull string closure and secondly by two side release clips securing 1-inch webbing which extend from the lid down to the base of the pack. This allows securing and tightening of the load.

The pack exterior is made of 1000D nylon which is water resistant.
The carrying straps of the pack are padded and adjustable to optimize comfort. The wide padded waist belt allows for distribution of weight from the shoulders.
The reinforced carrying handle sewn into the top of the pack should be used when lifting or loading the pack to prevent wear or damage which can occur when the straps are incorrectly loaded.
Care should be taken to ensure that the pack is correctly assembled and that use training is conducted on initial issue. This will improve user comfort and lifespan of the equipment.
