Wide-brim field hat worn with law enforcement field uniform
The Booney hat is an accompanying head dress for the field uniform, where the beret would normally be worn for dress uniform purposes. The Booney hat is a multipurpose and versatile uniform item. It is manufactured from the same material as the field uniform and generally has a subdued colour identifying badge sewn onto the forehead. The 6cm/2½inch wide brim shades the face, providing sun protection over the face and neck.
The wide brim assists in shading and disguising the head and facial features and therefore aids in camouflage. The external band allows for insertion of foliage and other forms of skrim for further camouflage requirements.
The internal sweat band of the boonie is absorbant to prevent brow sweat from running into the eyes. Ventilation eyelets integral to the cap portion of the boonie allow for cooling airflow. The adjustable retention chord can be worn either under the chin or behind the head.
A high-visibility orange panel is sewn into the interior of the cap to assist with field or aircraft signalling.
