Compact patrol body-ground isolation mat for temperate environments

The sleeping mat provides the minimum necessary padding and ground isolation when lying or sitting on the ground. In folded configuration the sleeping mat also offers a comfortable seat for use, for example when conducting observation posts in rocky terrain. To reduce size and weight, the padding is only cut to the length of the torso with leg area insulation only by ripstop water resistant material. The padding is compact high density closed-cell foam sufficient to provide ground insulation in temperate environments. The mattress z-folds to allow for compact storage behind the large pack external frame. When stored in this configuration, the closed cell foam can serve as additional flotation for the pack during water crossings.

Although not as comfortable as some modern air-mattress technology, the air mattress is more durable and reliable and therefore may be a logical choice for long range patrol units. As always, individual operator training is essential prior to issuing equipment.
